๐ฌ๐ง English Meaning
Dhritarashtra said:
“O Sanjaya, after assembling on the sacred land of Kurukshetra, eager to fight, what did my sons and the sons of Pandu do?”
This is the first shloka of Bhagavad Gita Chapter 1. King Dhritarashtra asks Sanjaya about the situation on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.
The Kauravas and Pandavas had gathered for the great war. Dhritarashtra refers to the Kauravas as “my sons” and to the Pandavas as “the sons of Pandu.” This wording reflects his attachment toward his own sons.
The word “Dharmakshetra” means a sacred or righteous field. Therefore, the opening verse establishes the background for the deeper teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, including Dharma, Duty, Spiritual Wisdom, Self-Discipline, Ethics and Decision Making.
